A house built around 1980 usually went up with a steel sectional door on torsion springs mounted on a single shaft above the opening, sometimes still with the original extension-spring setup if the door itself was never upgraded. Forty-plus years on, that's the hardware failing now: torsion springs that have cycled past their rated life, and center bearing plates that have worn enough to let the shaft wobble under load.
The other pattern we see across Jurupa Valley houses of this era is the opener. A 1980 build didn't come with a garage door opener as standard - most of those were added later, sometimes decades later, on brackets and rail systems that don't match what a hardware store sells today. When one of those units finally quits, the mounting doesn't always fit a current off-the-shelf opener without some adapting.
We're in a moderate-heat climate band here, which is easier on rubber seals and nylon rollers than a harsher climate would be - it's not the reason doors fail out this way. The reason is age and cycle count on original hardware, plain and simple.
